Steven H. MacEachern, a senior at North Carolina State University, has been awarded the prestigious Silver Congressional Medal for his commitment to community service, personal development, physical fitness, and for completing the required Exploration.
United States Senator Richard Burr presented Steven with the Silver Congressional Medal at a ceremony on the NCSU campus, hosted by Chancellor James L. Oblinger. Steven, a former Eagle Scout, was previously awarded a Bronze Congressional Medal by Congressman David Price. While still in high school, he earned the Prudential Community Spirit Award.
The Congressional Award was created by an act of Congress in 1979 to recognize and honor young people who set and meet goals in four areas: volunteer service, personal development, physical fitness, and exploration. There are three levels—bronze, silver and gold—that are based on the number of hours applied to the program.
Steven volunteered his time with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and provided leadership to a team of people to design and construct an outdoor classroom at Lake Wheeler (currently used by the NCSU Rowing team, as well as by young boys and girls during a summer-camp aquatics programs). Steven previously completed an internship at SunTrust Banks, Inc., and is currently employed by Keystone Financial Partners, a local financial services firm. Steven is expected to graduate from North Carolina State University in May 2007, with a Business Finance degree from the College of Management.
